NATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Works should be:

    • no longer than 4 minutes in duration

    • scored for Flute and Piano

  • Only composers who are South African citizens may enter.

  • Official proof of registration needs to be submitted electronically.

  • Score must be submitted in pdf format.

  • No hand-written scores will be accepted.

  • Composers may submit multiple entries.

COMPETITION RULES

  • The competition is open to all composers of South African nationality.

  • A single movement work for Flute and Piano that is no longer than 4 minutes in duration.

  • Each entry must be original music written by the composer, and multiple entries per composer are allowed.

  • The submitted compositions must not have been professionally performed, published, or recorded for commercial CD/DVD release.

  • Each composer must submit the following labelled with a pseudonym. (No marks identifying the composer must appear anywhere on the score or midi realization):​​​​​

  • HOW TO ENTER:

    • Complete this form.

    • Email the following to grovecompetition@gmail.com:

      • Score in PDF format (labelled with Pseudonym)

      • Midi realization in MP3 format (labelled with Pseudonym)

      • South African Identification Document​

  • Entries received after 8 NOVEMBER 2019 will NOT be accepted.

  • Rights:

    • By participating in the competition, the winner cedes to the competition, free of charge:

      • the performance rights for the world première

      • publication right for publication in AMUSICON

  • The UP Stefans Grové National Composition Competition reserves the right not to announce a winner if the entry requirements are not met.

  • Winners will be announced in the press during NOVEMBER 2019

  • The Prizes are as follows:

    • FIRST PRIZE

      • R10 000 as well as a public performance of the winning composition

    • SECOND PRIZE

      • R5000 as well as a public performance of the winning composition

  • Jury:

    • The executive committee of the competition has the exclusive authority to appoint the members of the jury, and the number of members is not limited.

    • The Jury of the 2019 competition will be made up of a group of distinguished South African composers who will be announced after the competition.  No member of the jury may enter a work in the competition.

    • A jury member may not adjudicate a work by his/her own students.
